5.56×45 – 55 Grain FMJBT XM193 – Federal American Eagle – 20 Rounds

American Eagle. It’s Federal’s bread and butter range ammunition, and the stock favorite of AR-15 owners throughout the United States. If your firearm is chambered for 5.56×45, then it will absolutely tear through this box of 20 rounds.

M193 is the U.S. Army’s designation for their standard 5.56 NATO ammunition. Federal adds an X to that designation when they manufacture the ammo for the civilian market.

This cartridge has a 55 grain full metal jacket boat tail bullet. The jacket prevents positive expansion following the penetration of soft tissue, as well as jamming and lead fouling of the barrel. A boat tail just means the bullet has a tapering base, which essentially makes it more aerodynamic so it can retain greater velocity as it flies farther and farther downrange. This type of bullet is most frequently used for target practice, although it is capable of handling matters during a self-defense scenario.

American Eagle ammo is both nonmagnetic and non-corrosive, so you can fire it at indoor ranges and not have to worry about rusting. Once these rounds are fired their cases remain usable for handloading.
